Who We Are
SOHURA Foundation, formerly known as the Society for Human Rights Activist (SOHURA), is a registered community-based non-profit organization legally recognized by the Lira City Council NGO Registration Bureau under the Ministry of Local Government, Republic of Uganda (Registration No: 23/LCC/244L).
Founded in 2008 in response to post-conflict challenges in Northern Uganda, SOHURA empowers youth, women, and vulnerable communities through rights-based, inclusive, and sustainable development approaches.

Comprehensive strategies for sustainable community development and empowerment
Strengthening community capacity for human rights protection and peaceful conflict resolution in post-conflict Northern Uganda.
Contributing to the development and reform of policies and legal frameworks supporting women, children, and vulnerable populations.
Equipping women and youth with vocational, agribusiness, entrepreneurship, and life skills to enhance self-reliance and economic independence.
Improving community health outcomes through HIV/AIDS prevention, access to safe water, improved sanitation, hygiene promotion, and disease prevention.
Providing psychosocial care, education, and livelihood support to women, youth, and orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs).
Building community and youth resilience through climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy solutions, and environmental conservation initiatives.
Democratic and transparent organizational leadership
The supreme authority of SOHURA that gives general direction for realizing SOHURA's objectives. Comprises organizations and individuals committed to human rights, women's rights, children's rights, and HIV/AIDS response.
A democratically elected body serving three-year terms. Responsible for formulating policies and overseeing the management and effective running of SOHURA's affairs.
Led by the Executive Director, this organ is charged with implementing policy decisions and programmes of SOHURA. Ensures day-to-day operations and program delivery.
SOHURA's membership is multidisciplinary and open to NGOs, CBOs, and individuals passionate about combating SGBV and HIV/AIDS through human rights protection. Current membership includes 50 members across four categories:
